The Wizard of Oz Project

The sub-topics I have been assigned to are as follows :

The Author, the Plot, The Book. Classroom Activities.

The sub-topics addressed in my section of the website begin with an introduction to the author of the Wizard of Oz series of books and films. Frank Baum was born in New York and experienced several career changes before settling down to write the books that were to become America's best-selling series of children's fantasy novels. The plot of the Wizard of Oz was devised by the author as he told stories to his children and their friends at their home in Chicago. It was at the suggestion of his mother-in-law that he began to record these stories that the children found so interesting. The first book in the series was originally titled "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". However, at a later stage, the word "wonderful" was deleted. In total fourteen books were published, members of Baum's family continued writing them following his death in 1919.

The website also addresses the learning needs of children. We have included a "Classroom Activities" section, where the content can be downloaded and used as learning material in the primary education sector. This facility will encourage an interest in reading and the acquisition of cognitive skills from an early age.
